Green Shield Tours is pleased to announce that, apart from offering various extraordinary tour packages into some of the most bio-diverse regions on the planet, we also provide the technical expertise to ensure that travellers are provided with uncompromised levels of safety and as much as possible, fulfilled expectations.
It is of utmost importance for you, the rainforest traveller, to comprehend the seasonal nature of climatic conditions in equatorial countries such as Guyana which could render the most majestic waterfall an almost feeble trickle, and the unaccustomed fierce rays of the sun in our open, almost treeless, savannah with most of our wildlife hidden by the dense foliage of our rainforest. However, these are the very characteristics that make touring Guyana, ideally situated in the Guiana Shield, an incomparable experience.
The rivers flowing east from the North Pakaraimas all flow into the Atlantic Ocean, carving out hundreds of spectacular waterfalls including the magnificent Kaieteur.
It must be noted that almost all Indigenous villages have serviceable airstrips with domestic schedules to the coastland by very reliable aircraft companies and radio contact with the coastland authorities is often readily available. |

Mt. Roraima's North Ridge
The Pakaraima mountains, though rather small, stretch from Roraima's Prow and northern ridge at 8,000 ft. to the Kanuku and smaller mountains, a distance of approximately 300 km, offering a spectacular array of wild life and bird watching to satisfy the professional and casual tourist alike. The plant life is unlike any other found on the planet.
The managing director, Mr. Mervin Hamilton, who hails from Moco Moco, a village at the foot of the Kanuku Mountains, is uniquely at home in the abode of the Harpy Eagle and specialises in treks down south to the land of the Wai Wais. His immediate presence in the North Pakaraimas, coupled with the services of tour consultant, Rafel Downes of the North Pakaraimas, who in the last decade has personally cut various lines through uninhabited rainforest to Mount Roraima, ensures a truly elite service to rainforest travellers covering the broad spectrum of hard-adventure to luxurious custom-designed travel packages.
Green Shield Tours would like to make it explicitly clear that with a land that has so much to offer to the serious and casual traveller, prices and packages largely depend on your choice of travel, length of stay, standard of food and quantity of baggage
Like most developing eco-tourist countries, Guyana's ability to provide constant telecommunication and medi-vac facilities is generally limited and as such emergency contingencies are designed according to special requirements.
Of course there are inexpensive packages that allow the more experienced back-packer to travel the rainforest as he or she pleases but it must be clearly understood that Green Shield Tours in no way cuts corners on any of its packages that would jeopardise the security or any facet of its agreed arrangement with the traveller. It must be borne in mind that the consultation process before such a trek highlights the sudden changes that could occur from changing weather patterns. These changes could include a complete restructuring of departure destinations due to heavy rainfall on some of the lesser developed landing strips.
However, basic amenities such as excellent drinking water, fresh and organic food, courteous and efficient guides are guaranteed by the operational staff of Green Shield Tours.
A truly unique feature offered by Green Shield Tours is their area of speciality – that of the North Pakaraimas - where the rivers running west all flow into the Amazon, passing through the lands of the Patamona, Macushi and Wapishana Indigenous tribes who speak their respective languages and live culturally as they have done for centuries. |
